This engraved copper art drawing was created by artist Kate Ive, in her Edinburgh studio.

Kate has engraved this relief drawing by hand. She scraped through black ground on the top of board. In this way, she has revealed a copper layer beneath. This copper is reflective and shimmers in the light. The finely cut design is intricate and precise, creating a series of interlocked arrows.

This experimental drawing represents an important area of Kate’s art practice. She frequently trials new ideas, materials and finishes for larger sculptural pieces as drawings in the first instance. This particular drawing became a 3D engraved art medal.
