Hand carved wax & copper electroform
This hand carved geometric wax relief was created by artist Kate Ive.
Kate wanted to experiment creating very intricately carved wax relief sculptures. In order to do this, she first cast a wax block. She then carefully hand carved the geometric details. The design shows a geometric iceberg floating on the ocean.
The design was then copper plated and used to create a traditional handmade watermark. Whilst on residency in Italy, Kate turned this geometric wax relief into a watermark embedded in handmade cotton paper. Click here to see the finished paper watermark drawing.
Notably, this was the beginning of Kate’s exploration of intricate hand carved relief sculpture.
